SR550 swapping from 8x 3.5"-bay to 12x 3,5"-bays

2020-09-30, 17:20 PM

Hello Community,

there is a simple question, but so hard to answer.

One of our customers has purchased a SR550 with an 8x 3,5" drive bay. We need swap this to a 12x 3,5" drive bay.

The challenge is to change the front cover which is this one:

With the SR550/SR590/SR650 3.5" SATA/SAS 12-Bay Backplane Upgrade Kit (4XH7A08771) changing the backplane seems to be possible. But.... We need this front cover, if we would like to use all drive bays.

Can anyone help with that challenge?

Greets,

Chris

Hi Chris

If you order SR550/SR590/SR650 3.5" SATA/SAS 12-Bay Backplane Upgrade Kit (4XH7A08771), you can refer the internal cable routing for twelve 3.5-inch hot-swap drives and install the 3.5-inch-drive backplane to install the package. The backplane upgrade kits include drive backplanes and required SAS cables, power cables, and drive bay fillers, storage controllers are not included. So you also need to replace left and right rack latch as below.

You don't need to install front cover for the SR550 with 12x 3.5" drive bay. You just need to install hard drive into hot-swap case and then insert into the server. The hot-swap case will be look like the cover of the server.
