SR630 BMC reset?

2018-05-16, 13:38 PM

I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I received an alert from my server that stated this message.  The connector Front Video has been connected.  At first I thought someone was messing with it but looking at the logs I also see messages like;

- front panel board 1 detected as present.

- Management Controller SN#  Network Initialization Complete.

- LAN: Ethernet[IMM : ep1] interface is now active

- Hot Spare enabled for ThinkSystem SR630.

and more like this.  What happened?  Did the managment controller reboot or something?  Is this normal?

In the adut log I see tyhis message. - Management Controller SN# reset was initiated by XCC firmware

Hi digitalman161:

I have a Purely ST550 and Just now I turned off my server by pressing power button and then I removed the AC power and then inserted AC power and then pressed  the power on button of the server , I got the same log with you . Can you see a log about server turn off except the log you provided?

Here is the picture for your reference, If the server is turn off and AC removed and then the server is on ,you will see these logs and it is normal. When AC is on the XCC  (Management Controller) will do initiation action.

Yes but my server was not turned off. This happened in the middle of the day. As far as I can tell the OS did not reboot or anything.

The log item type you provided are just information log not warning or error logs, it seems your machine is normal.  Maybe you can review the whole aduit and event log and observer what happened on your machine yesterday.

Like I said, nothing. The first message in the Audit log around the time this happened is "The BMC functionality tier is changed from Standard to Enterprise.". The very next message is "Management Controller SN# reset was initiated by XCC firmware." Why did this happen?

It seems that your BMC liscense has been upgraded from default  standard to Enterprise level .  Here is an example of my SR650 server with the Enterprise liscense and Advanced Liscense.

The following link has the explaination of the three different XCC controller liscense level

In the link I provided in the last post tells this :

By default, the SR630 server includes XClarity Controller Standard features, and it can be upgraded to Advanced or Enterprise functionality by using the Features on Demand (FoD) upgrades.

XClarity Controller Standard offers the cability

  • Managing FoD activation keys

---But I didn't find the FoD item on my SR650,   My server with the Enterprise and advance liscenses at the beginning when I bought it.

It happened again on my server about 3 months later. Would really like to know what is happening here.
