SR635 pci-e nvme 2,5" support list

2021-01-18, 18:57 PM

Hi, i have sr635 server (7y99ct01ww) . there is front bay for 10x 2,5" drives.
I installed 10 sata drives and they are detected and work. last  4 slots in front bay are for "any disk type (sata/sas/pci-e)"
(for example: Intel DC P3600 SSDPE2ME012T401 PCI-Express 3.0 x4).
I have "2.5 inch  NVMe/PCI-E SSD to M.2 NGFF PCIe x4 SSD Adapter Enclosure"
and i mounted ADATA SWORDFISH 500GB M.2 PCIe (ASWORDFISH-500G-C).
the green led for slot is light up, but nvme is not detected neither in bios, neither from linux (ubuntu server 20.04).

Hi Sir,

The part number you are asking for is 4XH7A09828 and it can also be found in the previous link I provided.

Storage Enclosure 4XH7A09828 ThinkSystem SR635 2.5" 10 Gen4 Anybay BP kit

To order the parts, go to the Lenovo DCG Part Sales page and select your Country to find the best distributor for you.

The devices in the supported list have been validated and certified for compatibility with Lenovo Servers and work with third-party vendors to test their equipment with ours. We strongly recommend customers use the certified devices otherwise we're concerned that you may experience a compatibility issue or the performance issue like the current issue you ran into. If customers choose the certified devices but run into compatibility issues, you can contact the Support team and they will assist you until the problem solved.

Hi Sir,

Please refer to the ThinkSystem M.2 Drives and M.2 Adapters

SR635 supports ThinkSystem M.2 SATA/NVMe 2-bay Enablement Kit which supports 2 SATA or 2NVMe drives, no RAID configuration. The supported drives are listed from the link above.

this mean, that https://lenovopress.com/assets/images/LP1160/SR635%20front%20view.png is wrong... 4x AnyBay. but connectors have pci-e, on motherboard is written "PCie Conn1, PCie Conn2..", but in reality there is no pci-e for front bay...

6x 2.5-inch hot-swap SAS/SATA + 4x 2.5-inch hot-swap AnyBay...

Table 7. Models for EMEA countries:

10x 2.5" (6xSAS + 4xAny) Open bay

Unique Lenovo AnyBay technology provides the flexibility to mix-and-match SAS/SATA HDDs/SSDs and NVMe SSDs in the same drive bays.

Hi Sir,

The description on the Lenovo Press page you mentioned is correct. We cannot guarantee that non-certified devices will work on our server, especially the device is through an adapter or enclosure. This may affect the system's stability, performance, or other unknown results.

For the supported U.2/U.3 NVMe SSD list, please refer to this page and search the keyword by "U.2".

If you would like to install an M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD on the server, the ThinkSystem M.2 SATA/NVMe 2-bay Enablement Kit is required.

Hi Sir,

"We cannot guarantee that non-certified devices will work on our server, especially the device is through an adapter or enclosure. This may affect the system's stability, performance, or other unknown results." - to do this is my responsibility and my risk, You should not prevent costumers doing this (You can only warn...). this make You like "Apple inc."

what if i buy certified disks and they not work? if you disabled non certified third party parts to work is different ...

this means that if a certified component (such as a disk) fails, I have to stand for 1-2 months with nothing to do, while waiting for a spare part. this is ridiculous. after I have bought the server, I need to be able to decide which parts to install at my own risk...

what is part number for front panel kit:

https://thinksystem.lenovofiles.com/help/topic/7Y98/sr635_2.5_10_gen4_anybay_backplane_kit.pdf

and where i can order it?

thank you and have nice day
