ST550 with 2 x M2 SSDs +M2 Mirroring kit (FRU7Y37A01093 + 2 SATA SDDs using the internal connections

2021-09-10, 8:18 AM

Hi,

Can the ST550 (7X10A0AKAU) utilise the 2 internal ODD SATA slots for 2 x FRU 4XB7A17077 (mirroring the drives) plus 2 x M.2 drives with the M.2 Mirroring kit (FRU7Y37A01093) as well as 8 HS HDDs using the 930-8i RAID adapter, without needing to get a 930-16 device raid adapter for the SSD’s?

A desired configuration would be

2 x M.2 with the Mirroring Kit +

2 x Sata Internal on board, +

up to 8 HS HDD in the front drive slots using the Raid 8 port adapter.

Thanks in advance

Jeff

Hi Robin,

Thanks.  I already looked at that excellent document which is how I could ascertain what ports were onboard. The document also states up to 20 storage devices using RAID cards - not both of M2 & internal SATA internal drives (which is 4 drives) + up to 20 drives using port adapters which is 24 drives.  The document does not state 24 drives can be addressed internally.   Please check and confirm.

With respect to the onboard Sata, I could not identify if the SSDs can slot into those ODD Sata ports directly (viz, SATA power connections are also in parallel with the ports), or if additional cables and cage assembly are required for the Sata SSD's.  If a mounting kit is required for SATA drives, what is the FRU please?   The 4 port optional conversion kit for the front panel is designed for HS drives, not internal SSDs, from my reading of the document.

Thanks gain,

Jeff
