Re:Server ST250 (7Y45) - how to disable NIC in BIOS?

2021-03-29, 10:24 AM

Hi,

The onboard NIC of ST250 is Broadcom BCM5720 which is dual port / chip and it seems to behave differently than Intel NIC (I tested with SR630 which uses Intel LOM). So I guess the only way is to disable NIC chip itself from UEFI, and it is not possible to disable one port only unfortunately.

Thank you,

Hi,

I tested at our lab and confirmed same symptom as you reported (The case 1 below). Now asking our backend support to confirm why Windows detects em1 even though onboard NIC port 1 is disabled by UEFI so I will let you know once the update is provided. Thank you,

1. UEFI port 1 disable, port 2 is enable
>> Windows detects em1 and em2
2. UEFI port 1 is enbled, port 1 is disabled
>> Windows detects em1 only.
3. UEFI port 1 and 2 are disabled
>> Windows detects no NIC ports

Hi bfg,

I got a response from our back end group that this is working as designed of this LOM adapter. Port 1 is seen from operating system even disabled it from UEFI.

Thank you,
