ThinkSystem ST250 RAID setup issue

Hello all,

I am having issues in setting up RAID on the ST250.  My configuration is as follows:

ST250 - 7Y46CTO1WW

Using Intel RSTe software RAID

Drives: 4 - 1.2 tb SAS 2.5"

The issue that I am having is that the drives do not show up under RAID setup on the main XClarity menu, nor under the UEFI/System Settings/Storage/Intel RSTe Controller.  I can see them in inventory, but inventory lists no information about them, simply shows 4 drives installed.  Am I missing something, or will this configuration not work?

Thank you

Re: ThinkSystem ST250 RAID setup issue

Hi Sir,

Did you try to configure RAID on the LXPM?

Could you please refer the LXPM RAID Setup document or video-Lenovo ThinkSystem XClarity Provisioning Manager - LXPM Raid Configuration to configure RAID on the LXPM.

Re: ThinkSystem ST250 RAID setup issue

Hi Dannyhsueh,

I have tried to configure the RAID through LXPM as well as through UEFI setup. I have watched the video and read through the documentation you liked through as well. I think I must be missing a step.

In RAID Setup in LXPM, it says that no virtual disk exists, and will not allow me to click the next arrow. If I click on Manage Disks, it says that no drives are attached to the RAID controller.

I get pretty much the same behavior under UEFI Storage as well. The storage controller is setup in RAID mode and the SAS drives are in the drive bays 1 - 4. I have tried the drives in bays 3 - 6 as well, and see the same behavior.

Thank you,
Randall

Re: ThinkSystem ST250 RAID setup issue

Thank you. I will see about getting a RAID adapter for this system. Will I need anything other than the adapter? I am planning on ordering 7Y37A01088 and just want to make sure I do not need an cable kit or anything else for it to function with the SAS drive bays.

Re: ThinkSystem ST250 RAID setup issue

You can refer ST250 maintenance manual section Hot-swap-drive backplane to understand the cable routing and check if you need to oreder additional cable or not.

Re: ThinkSystem ST250 RAID setup issue

Hi justinl,

Please refer to the ST250_maintenance_manual , from page 41 to 44 to understand the cable routing for the backplanes and order the additional cables if required.

If you would like to set up a RAID using an additional RAID adapter, please choose the following options:

12 Gb SAS/SATA RAID for hot-swap drive configurations:

  • RAID 530i (cacheless) supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50
  • RAID 730-8i with 1GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50
  • RAID 930-8i with 2GB flash-backed cache supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6, 60
  • RAID 930-16i and 24i with 4GB flash-backed cache supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6, 60

The 430-8i is an HBA card, it does not support RAID.
