ThinkSystem ST50 with RAID 530-8i PCIe 12Gb Adapter and Windows 2016 - no volumes in windows

Hi Guys,

I try to install a ThinkSystem ST50 7Y48 with a RAID 530-8i PCIe 12Gb Adapter and Windows 2016.

I have no problem installing and configuring RAID 1 Volume with XClarity Lite but when

Windows 2016 first boot, i have an error on the script there is no volume for windows to install OS.

My XClarity Lite is last build

The drivers are the least on the Lenovo website: lnvgy_dd_sraidmr35_7.708.18.00_windows_x86-64.exe

I even tried manually pointing Windows to the driver, windows installed the drivers and tell

that the card is in ready state but there is no volume recognized eather.

Even Storcli64 says 0 adapters with drivers installed and ready.

If anyone have ideas on the same, i'll be greatfull.

PS: sorry for the english mistakes, i'm a Frenchmen from Tahiti.

Cheers

Hi JimShark,

Do you mean the volume cannot be found in the following screenshot?

Capture.JPG

If this is the case, please download the 530-8i driver from the page: https://windows-server.lenovo.com/repo/latest/html/ST50_7Y48_7Y49_7Y50-Windows_Server_2016.html.  Extract the driver package to a USB drive, and plug it into the USB port of ST50 server, select Load Driver and specify to the folder where you saved the driver, click OK to apply driver.

You will then see the disk.

Hi ccchen,

Thanks for your quick answer.

Yes it is this screen where the is no drive.

I downloaded the drivers and extract to my USB drive as i did with former ones.

Pointed to the link megasas35_7.708.18.00 eather to the \repo and to the \devices

The driver installation is OK but still no disk.

PS: the RAID 1 Volume is OK and ready at UEFI and XClarity Lite

My local Lenovo support Center gave me a new 530-8i Raid card to test but it is the same with the new card.

No drive.

Thanks again for your support.

Re: ThinkSystem ST50 with RAID 530-8i PCIe 12Gb Adapter and Windows 2016 - no volumes in windows

Hi Ccchen,

Yes i already tried:

  • ThinkSystem RAID Adapter Driver for Windows Server

  • 7.708.18.00
  • 31 Jul 2019

I gave it a second chance, download from you link but it is the same still no drive even though the driver is installed successfully.

...

Thanks for your help.

Kind regards,

Jean-Marie

Re: ThinkSystem ST50 with RAID 530-8i PCIe 12Gb Adapter and Windows 2016 - no volumes in windows

Hi Ccchen,

I achieved to install Windows 2016 doing the following:

- Flash my RAID Card on a nother server with last firmware:

nvgy_fw_sraidmr35_530-50.8.0-2659_windows_x86-64.exe

- set the option 'CSM' in BIOS setup from 'enabled' to 'disabled'

Then i run XClarity Lite automatic mode and it went through the Windows

installation.

I guess it has to do with 'CSM' Disabled, when Enabled eventhough in UEFI + Legacy

Windows does not see the RAID Volume.

Thanks for your help and ideas.

And may be this post will help others with RAID problems.

Re: ThinkSystem ST50 with RAID 530-8i PCIe 12Gb Adapter and Windows 2016 - no volumes in windows

Hi JimShark,

Thank you for the information.

Glad to hear you found the solution when the CSM setting is disabled and the system was successfully installed by LXPM automatically installation.

My apologies that I did not notice you the CSM setting in the UEFI requires to be disabled. Refer to the ST50 setup guide.1.jpg

Could you please set this thread as completed with a solution you found so that others can find this answer as well?

Thank you.
