After pressing the blue ThinkVantage button or F11 to boot into the Rescue and Recovery environment, and choosing the option to “Launch advanced Rescue and Recovery”, some systems have a “Diagnose hardware” button. While running the diagnostics, the test may hang or report a time-out error. Specifically, the error occurs during hard drive testing.
Any ThinkPad computer may experience this error. Lenovo has confirmed that the diagnostic component of Rescue and Recovery may not be able to complete testing on certain hard drives. Lenovo does not have any plans to update the diagnostic component of Rescue and Recovery, and it will be withdrawn for future products.
Note: the hang or time-out does NOT mean that the hard drive is defective.
