Installed LCS, and the message center portion shows on the taskbar (Win7 Pro x64), but clicking on it there or from Start Menu, it doesn't open. Shows running in Task Manager, but nothing opening up. Uninstalled, reinstalled, no change.

Kindly make sure your product is supported with Lenovo Solution Center software.
If the product is supported under Lenovo Solution Center then you uninstall the software restart the system and install it again.

It's a T420, and LCS is listed in the software downloads for my specific one. Have uninstalled and reinstalled...there's been no change. It shows running in Task Manager, but never shows on screen.

I have not seen this problem myself so I asked LSC team about it. They said they have seen it once but they rebooted and then LSC worked after that. I assume you tried rebooting and the problem still happens?
There is a log.txt file inside folder "%appdata%\LSC\Local Store", can you please put it in dropbox/yousendit/etc and post the link to the file here? thanks for your help.

I have the same kind of problem. I have a T520. That computer is suposed to be supported by the solution center. I have windows 7 64 bit and installed the 64 bit version. I also have try to reboot and/or reinstall it. a process called LSC is runign. I see at the bottom right of the screen the logo of LSC but no matter what I do, nothing else happen. I have try to loach in admin mod and same result.
I can't find the log file your talking about...
I noticed a strange thing : even if I have instaled the 64 bit version, the task manager have LSC.exe *32
