Builtin microphone does not work in Ubuntu in my IdeaPad y510p

2015-04-19, 20:45 PM

Hi!

My built in microphone only produces noise in ubuntu 14.04LTS

When I plugin my phone's headset, the voice comes through without any problems, but not when I unplug it an use the built-in microphone. When I go over to Windows, the built-in microphone works (I have dual boot)..

Any Ideas on how I can trouble shoot this?

Change port from "built-in microphone" to microphone(unplugged) - yeah its strange. It worked for me. And dont use alsemixer after that - it will reset port to built-in

3 years later i came back here after i installed linux on my old friend y510p. I spent half an hour following my own advice =D Maybe noone will ever need it but ill update an answer:
1) open PulseAudio
2) go to input
3) select port "Microphone(unplugged)"
4) unlock left and right channels
3) set front right to 0, front left to 100
