Re:Firmware update

Hello,

Within Linux Lenovo posts BIOS update files to a third party Website named LVFS.   However only a handful of Lenovo systems are posted this way.  To learn if your system is supported, try this command at a command terminal  "fwupdmgr  refresh"   {Exact syntax may be different now, check the man pages for fwupdmgr}

IF firmware is available you will receive a very cryptic message saying so.    (package "fwupd" contains the command shown above.)

IF your system is not supported, mine is NOT, there are few practical ways to update BIOS.   As described above, the windows .exe is most common distribution method.  Sometimes a bootable USB file is embedded within the .exe file.  Carefully read the "README" document for how to create it.

IF you have Windows 10 Professional version, there is a way to make a bootable LIVE Windows 10 USB.  Named "Windows To GO"  Then a handful of reports relate success updating bios using the LIVE USB instance and the Lenovo .exe downloaded BIOS update file.

Otherwise the only supported way is to dual boot into Windows 10 and then install the updated BIOS from within that Windows 10 instance.  (That is what I do.)

Good Luck!

Unmarked 'solution' as the discussion is still on and apparently it didn't solve OP's problem.
