IdeaPad Z500 and Windows 7 + Ubuntu 12.04

Hi there, I must, and I say must, install this two software on my lenovo Z500. My notebook comes only with a 1TB hard drive.

I totally removed windows 8 from the hardrive.

I switched the bios to legacy support and disable secure boot as well.

I installed windows 7 without problem on a 300GB partition.

Then I tried with Ubuntu 12.04 (also tried 13.04) and I don't have the option install alongside windows 7. If I choose other option and I select manage partition (or something similar) there is no trace of windows 7 partition.

What happen ? please help me.

Re: IdeaPad Z500 and Windows 7 + Ubuntu 12.04

In general, I prefer to install Windows, and then Ubuntu.

This is because, in this way Windows can create the system partitions it needs. Later when I install Ubuntu, the GRUB bootloader of Linux takes care of adding the entry for Windows. Installing Windows later ignores Ubuntu, and there is no way to boot into Linux.

I have installed Win8 and Ubuntu 12.10 succesfully on my laptop in this way.

Ofcourse there are ways to recover the Ubuntu Installation, but I can't help you with that.

Hope that helps.

Gaurav
