Installing Ubuntu on Lenovo G500 w. Windows 8.1

2014-02-02, 9:43 AM

I cannot get Ubuntu to install on my laptop. When I try to boot from the disk it boots into windows. Even when I choose the DVD drive after pressing the f12 key, even from choosing it from the recover button. Is there something I should set to enable the laptop to boot from the disk? It came preinstalled with windows, is there something blocking it from booting from a disk. Please help.

I am in the same boat as you and it is very fustrateing. I decided to downgrade to windows 7 on my G500 because windows 8 just pissed me off. I beleave the root of the problem has to deal with the UEFI BIOS setting however I have not been able to get any version of linux to install on the computer as of yet as a duel boot. If you put the boot setting in to Legacy OS and the priority boot to UEFI First you can get a live linux distro to boot however you will not be able to boot an install off the hard drive. I have tried Ububnt 12.04.3 i386 and Linux Mint 16 64 and 32 bit KDE. Im Sry I am curently no help as of right now im trying to figgure it out :( not working out so far. Any help from anyone on this issue would be awsome.
