Lenovo Legion 5 + Ubuntu 22.04: WiFi not working

Hi!

I just installed Ubuntu 22.04 on a freshly bought Legion 5 Pro 16 laptop (16ARH7H / Ryzen6800H).

Now, running Ubuntu, I can't access wifi.

- in Networkmanager, wifi is activated

- no wlan SSIDs are displayed when scanning

- ifconfig only shows the ethernet device (eno0), no wifi

I guess it is a missing driver, but am unsure which Wifi-chip is actually used.

In lshw -C network there is just a "Network Realtek 852b" listed. In the usual google-hits they show always some device name which has something along the lines of "a/b/g/n" in its name. But in my list there are no entries with wifi-specific letters.

Already installed a OEM-kernel, as somewhere I read that the kernel shipped with 22.04 is too low. Also got an Realtek driver PPA added.

But to modprobe some driver, I first need to know the driver needed...

Does anyone know how to fix this? Or has at least info about what chip is actually used in this laptop?

Re:Lenovo Legion 5 + Ubuntu 22.04: WiFi not working

Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately lspci returned the same sparsely data as lshw.

But I solved it in the end - it turned out the driver (rw89) I tried was the right one, but the kernel did not understand the hardware yet :-)

Did not know that there are several OEM kernels and just tried the first one (linux-oem).

So after digging somewhat deeper, saw that there are several other oem kernels, indicated by letters (a,b,c...)

Solution: Just installed the linux-oem-c kernel, rebooted, and the wifi chip got recognised at once.

Re:Lenovo Legion 5 + Ubuntu 22.04: WiFi not working

In Ubuntu, I understand "sudo lspci" and/or "sudo lshw" will return some details, though I don't know if it's all you need.

As far as the parts offered in the 16ARH7H, Lenovo sources from multiple vendors to meet their promised specs. If you visit the support page here and filter the results (select Commodity Type: "Wireless LAN Adapters") you can view photos of the parts used, and on the underside of the card you can (usually) view the manufacturer model number e.g. RTL8852BE. You could also Google the Lenovo part numbers which often will reveal this info.
