Lenovo S540 (2019) - dual-boot Ubuntu

Hi ,

I am trying to dual-boot my S540( bought in June 2019) with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

I have allocated a separate partition, and boot to Ubuntu pen drive..but somehow Ubntu cannot detect my "unallocated" partition meant for Ubuntu installation. I have already disable Secure Boot in BIOS.

Have anyone successfully installed Linux as second OS?

Hi there! DId you manage to get this solved? I'm wanting to buy this laptop and install Ubuntu on it and there's not much online about its compatibility.

Hi Ubuntuser! Welcome to our forums community. We highly suggest you not to install the Ubuntu OS because the Ideapad S540 is not compatible in running an Ubuntu OS. Soon you will be experiencing issues on your computer. You can check the list of certified Ubuntu compatible models here:

Re: Lenovo S540 (2019) - dual-boot Ubuntu

I have the Ideapad S540 15,6" with i5-8265U and Nvidia GTX 1650. I am dual-booting Windows 10 and Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2.

ubuntuser:  my BIOS settings are:

Security -> Intel Platform Trust Technology: Disabled, Secure Boot: Disabled

Configuration tab, Storage -> Controller Mode: AHCI mode

I didn't have any problems installing Mint. Had some problems with wifi. This solved the wifi problems. For battery life I turned Bluetooth off, installed TLP and it's running with default settings. GTX 1650 eats battery like it's candy so I had to turn it off and use Intel. But, turning it off didn't work with the default drivers even though the logo changed from Nvidia to Intel. Had to do this. Most of the hotkeys are working including sound controls, brightness, airplane mode (wifi doesn't come back up without running a command), refresh etc. Lock current user hotkey is not working, neither is microphone hotkey. HDMI working ok, so is card reader. Fingerprint reader is not working.

simmehchan: Haven't tried Ubuntu directly, but Mint is working pretty good. Did the install yesterday so I can't say for sure about actual battery life yet, but power usage seems to be between 4W and and 9W (40% screen brightness, wifi on) when using Chrome (browsing) and writing in Visual Studio Code. The 70Wh battery might very well last over 10 hours this way.

Es por la configuracion en la Bios en Storage, Cambia a AHCI

Al comienzo ni iniciaba Windows por lo que tuve que reinstalar el sistema pero ya tengo Windows y Linux cada uno en su particion aparte con dual boot
