Re: Linux on Ideapad D330

That's great to hear! I append "fbcon=rotate:1" to my linux command line with "set gfxpayload=800x1280x32" on grub and the screen orientation should be on its proper rotation on boot before X starts. I'll have to get back to you to share my xorg config.

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
    Option "TearFree" "true"
    Option "RandRRotation" "on"
    Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "DSI1"
    Option "Rotate" "right"
EndSection

this is my .conf for intel graphics. Note that I'm using xf86-video-intel and I believe you may have to do a bit differently if you're just using the modeset interface for Xorg. For example the monitor identifier is "DSI-1" on modeset but becomes "DSI1" when using xf86-video-intel..

I am also using the Intel driver so I used your xorg config untouched and rotation now works great, thanks again! I added the following to align the touchscreen too...

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "D330 rotate touchscreen"
MatchProduct "Goodix Capacitive TouchScreen"
Option "TransformationMatrix" "0 1 0 -1 0 1 0 0 1"
EndSection

I am trying some i915 options now to try & save some battery life. Will let you know how I go.

Good to hear. I'm just curious, is suspend/resume working for you? Also what OS are you currently using and what is the kernel version? I'm still having some occasional problems on mine and I'd like to know if I've done something different to cause problems.

After suspending the screen never recovers but stays black & unlit unfortunately. I am runnung Fatdog 802 which is a super light & fast Debian offshoot that runs totally out of RAM. Touch screen works great too so it's even usable as a tablet without the keyboard. It is running kernel v4.19.32.

All we need now is screen rotation and suspend/hybernate to work and we are all good.

That's the same problem I'm encountering, though the backlight lights on fine when resuming. Do you also sometimes encounter blank screen when starting X?

For these remaining issues I don't think Intel make fixing a priority as the devs are pretty busy with their new platforms. Right now I'm asking from them technical documentation for Gemini Lake graphics and I'll continue investigating these issues.

Siraj007 - Keep pressing F12 just before & after the screen light comes on which will give you the UEFI boot menu. F12 requires you to also hold down the <Fn> key so make sure you are holding that down always while tapping the F12 key. Hope that helps.

mwgarcia - Yes I also get a blank screen sometimes but rarely. Hey I found these Intel GPU Tools for troubleshooting drm issues. It also allows you to turn on/off the backlight and gives much finer control of the backlight with the intel_backlight tool making it possible to reduce the brightness below the sysfs minimum limit. I haven't tried it as I am no developer and have never compiled anything let alone this level of hardware control but it might be helpful to you?

Siraj007 if F12 doesn‘t work go into the Bios (Fn+F2) and enable boot from USB.

Netready the GPU Tools sound interesting. Im going to test it next week.

I‘m back on Manjaro Gnome with my 1920x1200 Intel N5000 Model and with the newest Kernel it works almost flawless.
