Max fan on e490 linux [workaround]

2019-07-08, 12:11 PM

Ok, was about to post with a problem and stumbled on workaround. When I log into Xubuntu 18.04 everything is fine for ~10 seconds then the fans start running on max, keep on going forever. (UEFI boot) The workaround came from stumbling across another post online and reversing it, someone else had a Lenovo that fanned to max after suspend.

If you put the e490 into suspend with fans max they stop (power button top right, select suspend, spacebar to wake screen, continue), and when you resume normal fans happen, ie they start running progressivly faster under load/temp (used lm-sensors and hddtemp to check, used geekbench to load/test), and stop otherwise. They come back after a reboot/halt.

If anyone has any ideas, I would still like to know what is happening in the background. Also have reasonable Linux skills so could run special kernels/patches/debuging.
