I have installed Linux Mint 19 several times on my ideapad 320-15ABR, using both UEFI and Legacy settings. Always the same issue. Everything works on the Live CD and on the first boot. After that, during boot, the screen dims and never gets bright again. The driver is amdgpu and I can find no evidence of changes between the working boot and the 'dim' boot. I have looked all over the web and tried multiple 'solutions' but none have worked. Suggestions/solutions most appreciated. Will have to return this unit if I cannot make it work. Thanks in advance.

With the installation of the latest kernal (4.15.0-29-generic), the display began going to sleep at the appropriate time. I removed the 'nomodeset' from the boot loader and rebooted. Unit still went dim on bootup, but the brightness setting worked. I was able to set the brightness, and it stays through reboots. Happy to say I now consider this laptop fully functional and correct on this OS (Mint 19).
