T470p Linux support? I tried Mint 18.1 but I might need a OEM unbuntu distro

Hi, I want to get linux on my t470p . I tried doing a fresh install of 18.1 mint to my secondary internal drive (no dual boot) with secure mode off, I ran the driver update and after that things got crazy with errors etc. I have seen this article from unbuntu saying it is supported but only with a special OEM distro https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201701-25344/

But the link only shows compatibility with a i5 model. Does anyone have any information about this.
