First of all I know that this might be software issue and this forum might be only for hardware issues but I am posting it here because a lot of thinkpad owners are here and some of them might have faced same issue and solved it. so here goes my question
On my Thinkpad T61 (C93-6458) with Nvidia NVS140M GPU performance of ubuntu is very bad. So far I have used ubuntu 10.04 which worked quite snappy. I tried installing drivers from nvidia website which made it even more slower.
for example after login it takes nearly 10-12 second for displaying graphical desktop.
I want to know how this an be fixed.

This is in Ubuntu 10.04? Do you have a regular hard drive or a solid state drive?
The symptom you described (10-12 seconds to show the desktop after login) is not necessarily a problem caused by a slow GPU. Is it possible the computer is simply running slower than you want? In other words, do you know if the GPU performance is your problem?
