ThinkPad E585 WiFi not working in Linux Mint

2019-06-25, 2:35 AM

I know that there are a lot of problems with the E585 and Linux, but I haven't heard of anyone having this one yet.  I booted up the Linux Mint 19.1 live image from a USB stick using the helpful boot parameter tips from EvilAzrael's blog, but then Mint seemed to think my laptop just had no wifi on it at all--no configuration options existed for wireless, and so I couldn't connect to the internet.  Anyone have an idea what might be wrong here?  I'm kind of worried because I haven't heard of anyone else just being unable to use wifi--even in Mint 19.1 specifically!
