I am using thinkpad X1C7 with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (dual boot with Windows 10).
I have the same problem. At first, alsamixer, puvcontrol, pactl, and gnome did not detect the internal microphone.
I tried this instruction: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/358741/asus-x540s-laptop-internal-microphone-listed-but-not...
$ sudo apt-get install alsa-tools-gui $ hdajackretask
Then I overrided 0x13 to internal mic. After reboot, the internal microphone was detected.
However, I can not input my voice. The microphone records only static noise.

I've tried the solution mentioned by AAAA2 (overrided 0x13) on Ubuntu 19.04 but unfortunately with same result, the microphone records only noise.

Hi, I recently bought the x1c7 (with the 4g sim slot) and tried ubuntu 18.04. The mic still does not work even when I upgrade to kernel 5.3 (via ukuu). The mic is not even recognized. Did anybody have any luck so far? I searched around the web and tried a number of different solutions but either the mic is not recognized or if it is, it does not capture sound. What's even more strange is that the sound card is recognized as a "generic soundcard". I thought that this ALC285 would be working with a proper driver by now. Does anybody have any insights?
