Touchscreen on the Lenovo ThinkPad L390 using Ubuntu does not work

2019-09-27, 18:41 PM

I have Lenovo ThinkPad L390 with touchscreen and it works fine on Windows, but not on Ubuntu. I've bought this laptop trusting the Ubuntu certification (https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201812-26720) because Canonical-tested laptop included touchscreen as well, but this failed me. I've tried Ubuntu LTS 18.4 and 19.4.

Other info:
- `xinput` is showing touchscreen: "Raydium Touchscreen id=10 [slave pointer (2)]"
- if I list device props using `xinput list-props 10`, I see device: `Device Node (277): "/dev/input/event9"`
- `cat /dev/input/event9` does not produce anything
- `xinput --test-xi2 --root` does not produce any touchscreen events, even though events from other devices are successfully shown

I have the same problem with my Lenovo L390, the Raydium touchscreen doesn't work.

This is the dmesg log using kernel 5.0.0-29 (Ubuntu 18.04):

Hi Donce.

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks for reaching out, we would like to clarify if the machine was able to use the touch screen function before or was it always unable to use the touch screen function?

Regards.

Re: Touchscreen on the Lenovo ThinkPad L390 using Ubuntu does not work

Hello Jack,

On Windows, it was and it is still working perfectly fine, so it is not a hardware failure. But I bought this laptop to be used with Ubuntu, since I've trusted Lenovo and the Ubuntu certificate for this specific model. The touchscreen was never functioning on Linux, I've installed multiple versions of Linux: Ubuntu LTS 18.4, Ubuntu 19.4, Ubuntu 19.10, Kubuntu, Manjaro-i3. For all of these distributions, touchscreen was completely non-functioning, although you could see the touchscreen listed in `xinput`.

The touchscreen started working on Ubuntu 18.04 after an upgrade that brought kernel 5.3.0-28-generic.
