USB boot in UEFI Mode for Lenovo Yoga 2 13 (not pro)

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 13 and currently have a windows 10 OS in a 240 GB SSD. I want to dual boot and install Linux Mint 64 bit OS. I already made a partition for Linux with 100 GB size. My SSD drive was partitioned as GPT. My current Windows 10 was installed through UEFI mode and is booting fine. How to install Linux Mint OS using UEFI mode so that once i have installed Linux, when turning my laptop it will have a bootloader option to choose whether I want Windows 10 or Linux to load? Because if will install Linux in Legacy Support with Legacy First, it does not recognized i have 2 OS in my machine.

Hi Aeroville! Welcome to Community Forums. I'm afraid Linux OS is not yet supported for your machine, you may refer to this link https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd031426 for the list of our products certified to work with Linux.

Re: USB boot in UEFI Mode for Lenovo Yoga 2 13 (not pro)

Thank you. I actually did proceed to install Linux Mint yesterday booting from USB in Legacy Support-Legacy First. I’ve managed to install it, though as expected; i can only boot to linux when i’m on legacy support-legacy first and when i’m on iefi mode; i’m booting windows 10. No bootloader option for both. So far..wifi works, all ports, speakers, bluetooth, trackpad, touch screen, and fhd display works. Everything seems working great except screen auto-rotation for this yoga convertible. Though i don’t really need auto-rotation. However, it would be great if i would not be changing boot mode to either uefi or legacy when turning my laptop on, a bootloader option would save the time.

Just a thank you. After months of hesitation - also failure - your suggestion has let me boot a rescue USB (as a test). From here, I have some hope to get Linux up on my otherwise wonderful but till now limited Lenovo hardware Smiley Happy

You should be asking this question on Linux Mint Community Forum.

Check out this link: https://community.linuxmint.com/hardware/view/23701

Linux is pretty friendly with Lenovo laptops and desktops.

Tip:

Update the BIOS (UEFI) before installing.

Make sure you turn off fast boot and secureboot. Use grub2-efi not grub2. The standard grub2 is for the BIOS on older machines.

Good Luck!
