X13 AMD fingerprint reader

2021-08-13, 12:41 PM

I'm looking at purchasing the X13 AMD Gen 1.

Can the community comment on the fingerprint reader experience? Does it work as expected?

If the fingerprint reader doesn't work as expected, I don't want to buy it and I'll leave it off the order. Is using it a trouble free experience on linux?

I have T14s AMD gen1. It's not exactly X13, but both models have a lot similarities and are even sharing BIOS updates, but I don't know if FP reader is also the same.

FP works as expected  for me on Fedora after installing of firmware update with fwupdmgr.

Fingerprint reader works on the X13 AMD G1 (I booted up mine and double checked ;)) It's the synaptics Prometheus device (USB ID 06cb:00bd)

The

"Bus 006 Device 002: ID 06cb:00bd Synaptics, Inc. Prometheus MIS Touch Fingerprint Reader" in my X13 AMD 20UG works fine. You can configure it with fprintd or your desktop environment. Gnome makes it particularly easy. On the other hand, I would refrain from buying an X13/T14/T14s if you plan to use them with Linux. Despite certification, there are too many unresolved bugs (TrackPoint, Webcam, Battery life esp. during sleep).
