X1C7 doesn't detect new 2tb ssd

2019-10-12, 18:30 PM

Hello,

I just got my brand new X1 carbon gen7 laptop (with bios 1.2). I was able to install Linux quite easily on the installed SSD drive. However when I tried to swap out the factory SSD with a Samsung 970 evo plus 2tb, the bios didn't detect it.

I've spent several hours pouring over technical docs and forums, without finding any reason why this wouldn't work. And, before I go down the debugging hole of determining if the hardware is bad, I wanted to see if anyone in this forum had any ideas?

And, yes, I've reset the new ssd several times without success and putting back in the factory SSD works just fine. ?

It was a bad SSD. Samsung sent me a new one and it worked perfectly.
