New W520 4270OCT AC adapter error

2011-06-05, 2:25 AM

After about a week of using my new W520 I started recieving errors for my AC adapter. When I turn the computer on I get a message on the bootup saying "connected AC adapter has lower wattage than recommended model which was shipped with the system. To boot with AC adapter please connect AC adapter that was shipped with the system".

The battery recharges when the computer is turned off, but will not charge when the computer is turned on due to the error. I have the exact same AC adapter that was shipped with the computer 170W 20V I recieved only a short time ago. Does anyone know if it is it a faulty AC adapter or could there be something wrong with the computer itself?

try to reinstall the Thinkvantage power manager, if that don't work, try calling warranty support in your country.

Re: New W520 4270OCT AC adapter error

Reinstalling the power manager  no longer solves the problem. I have had this error ongoing for months now. I have called lenovo support twice about it. I recieved a new AC adapter to see if it was causing the error, but the problem persits.

For awhile I found that if I had an outlet that was turned on and off by a switch it would trigger the AC adapter to start charging the computer. However, if i changed rooms and left the laptop off for a period of time the error reoccurred. This trick is no longer working for me.

I have reinstalled the driver, the power manager and updated BIOS.

Same here. I did not buy a new ac adapter. I got to the point where it will not charge. I get the error message in bios and in windows also. Tried everything. Updated bios and power manager, uninstalled reinstalled. Nothing.

Betreff: New W520 4270OCT AC adapter error

2011-12-19, 20:52 PM

Hi,

recently I bought the W520 and now I also recognized that strange error message. However the error occurred from my point of view because I placed the W520 in such a kind on my desk, that a book was accidently bending the DC plug- connector on the rear of the W520 a little bit. I removed the book and the notebook was running well – I placed the W520 back into the old position and the error message occurred again. The whole situation remembers me to my old notebook – it had a very similar problem. There the DC connector was directly mounted on the mainboard and always if the connector was plugged in or plugged out the main board suffers a little mechanical stress which finally caused the problem.

*********

I would be interested in hearing whether those ones who use the docking station are also recognizing the error message.

Best Regards
