Question

My computer comes with a 320 GB disk, but Windows shows me a fully capacity of 298 GB. Why?

Answer

Disk capacity is measured in bytes. Manufacturers transform these bytes into a bigger measure unit (KB, MB, GB, etc.) dividing by 1000, not 1024.

320 GB x 1000 = 320000 MB x 1000 = 320000000 KB x 1000 = 320000000000 bytes

320000000000 bytes / 1024 = 312500000 KB / 1024 = 305175,78125 MB / 1024 = 298,023223876953125 GB
