Finger Print scanner is not working on X1 Carbon 3rd Gen

Good Evening,

I recently purchased a refurbished 3rd Gen Levono X1. I am not able to figure out how to get the finger print scanner to work. It does not show up in the device manager so I can't update the drivers as many have suggested.

I have made sure that the services of biometric within Window is turned on, the BIOS has the finger print enabled and I have updated all windows and levono drivers and updates. I am not sure what to do, I do not want to return the computer but would really like for this feature to work.

Information about my computer:
X1 Carbon 3rd Gen (Type 20BS, 20BT) Laptop (ThinkPad)
Intel Core i7-5600U Processor (2.60GHz)
8.0GB RAM
1x256GB PCIe
Windows 7 Professional 64 preinstalled through downgrade rights in Windows 8.1 Pro 64
14.0in 1920x1080
Intel HD Graphics
720p HD Camera
TrackPoint with TouchPad
Ethernet
Intel Wireless 7265AC(2x2)+BT4.0 M.2 Combo
Bluetooth 4.0
8 Cell Lithium-Polymer

Please let me know if you need any further intimation to aid with resolving this issue.

Thanks,
Jeffrey Sims

Re: Finger Print scanner is not working on X1 Carbon 3rd Gen

Also, I have tried the below and it did not work.

this has worked for me. Steps to fix:
1) Uninstall Driver and make sure you check "Remove Driver Data" from your computer
2) Download driver from this location:
https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds500825
3) Install (execute) r04fp03w.exe from the above link and click "Next", "Next",...

Wait until the driver is being installed.
If you don't see the driver then "Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager and reinstall the driver again.

Reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup.  Then go to the security -> fingerprint menu.  Choose the option about "reset fingerprint data".  Do you get an error?

Re: Finger Print scanner is not working on X1 Carbon 3rd Gen

Hi,

I'm faced with the same issue. fingerprint reader one day just stopped working.

Entered BIOS to 'reset fingerprint data' and came up with the error.

What's next and how can i get this issue resolved?

Thanks

If BIOS says "no fingerprint reader is attached", it's a hardware error.  The solution is to replace the fingerprint reader.

This reply may be too late to help you but I had the same problem with a refurbished X1 carbon laptop. Fingerprint recognition appeared to be enabled in the BIOS but when I tried to clear the fingerprint data I got a message that no fingerprint reader was attached. I eventually discovered that you also had to change another setting in the BIOS: In BIOS, Security, I/O access, change finger print recognition to enabled. After a restart and going back into the BIOS I was able to clear the fingerprint data and everything is now working in Windows.

Re: Finger Print scanner is not working on X1 Carbon 3rd Gen

Oh no PinkSquirrel it is never late.

I had the same issue, in the thought that my laptop was refurbished so it might have hardware issues for the blutooth, the fingerprint reader and integrated camera. All the three were not working for me and not even showing on device manager, so i tried  autodetection, manual installation of drivers, Bios update. and none worked.

Finally after reading your comment, I went to the Bios setup section security > I/O access and found all of them disabled. No they are working fine after I enabled them.

Thank you very much.

And we're back...
