X1 Carbon 5th Generation - 20HR series, Windows 10 Pro
Windows version now 10.0.17134
BIOS date 3/2/18
After the automatic Win 10 April 2018 (ver 1803) update, my fingerprint reader stopped working. Had no issues prior.
I have tried all suggested fixes, but no luck.
- Checked enabled in BIOS - ok
- Deleted driver, searched for and added driver in Device Manager - didn't work
- Deleted and re-installed fingerpirnt driver from Lenovo support website - didn't work
- Ran driver update tool from Lenovo support site (Lenovo service bridge)
Synaptics WBDI(SGX enabled) driver status still says - "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"
Windows Hello used to work fine - now says "Windows Hello isn't available on this device.

I reported the issue to development team. Note that same issue also discussed at below, it marked "Solved" however, it actually doesn't solve.

I found (in another post) a driver solution that works temporarily.

have you tried the below driver instead of the driver for Thinkpad A275/A475 driver ?

Dear Lenovo Community,
this has worked for me. Steps to fix:
1) Uninstall Driver and make sure you check "Remove Driver Data" from your computer
2) Download driver from this location:
3) Install (execute) r04fp03w.exe from the above link and click "Next", "Next",...
Wait until the driver is being installed.
If you don't see the driver then "Scan for hardware changes" in Device Manager and reinstall the driver again.
After installation check:
Driver Date: 7. January 2018
Driver Version: 5.2.3527.26
This driver would work for Windows 10 (x64) Version 1803 (April 2018 update) on Lenovo X1 Carbon(5th, 20HR)

Try this (from another thread). A few of us were able to get it going again...

lubomird's solution worked for me. I had to install through the "have disk" steps though because Windows kept telling me I had the best driver.
