Re: Intel HD Graphics driver on Yoga 2 Pro fails after Windows 10 upgrade

2015-08-06, 20:40 PM

Nice suggestion mrams71!

I hadn't thought to try the Windows 8.1 driver so I installed those, chose the option to overwrite the newer drivers, and was back in business after I restarted and after Windows Updates processed causing another couple of restarts.

Now, I'm able to continue working on my HDMI display and wait for Windows 10 drivers to be updated later (I presume there'll be some value in updating to the latest drivers eventually).

Re: Intel HD Graphics driver on Yoga 2 Pro fails after Windows 10 upgrade

2015-08-08, 15:08 PM

Update:  I've not had stability when using the Windows 8.1 driver on my Yoga 2 Pro running Windows 10.  The Intel HD Graphics Family driver shows "Working Properly" after first reverting back to the Windows 8.1 driver and the Micro-HDMI port works initially.  At some point though, I end up with the device showing disabled and I'm also having Audio issues.   I decided to upgrade the BIOS which went OK (upgraded from Kona BIOS Version 76CN31WW to Version 76CN43WW).  Then I re-installed the Windows 10 Intel HD Graphics Family driver from the Lenovo website (Version 10.18.15.2040 showing a data of 7/15/15 on the website but 6/16//15 once installed).  However, the driver shows disabled as not working properly so I'm not happy.

I'll continue to consider purchasing a support option but figure it'll only reap an apology and perhaps some information confirming the problem but I expect paying for support won't result in a working Windows 10 driver any sooner.  I'm not aware how to report a problem like this to Lenovo without paying them to hear about the trouble they're causing me.

I have had issues with the Intel driver on a W500. Windows 10 will force-feed you a driver but it has less functionality. I would search and find a modded driver and install it using the .inf file, not the regular setup. The Intel Control Panel doesn't work in Windows 10, even with the MS supplied driver. I found a modded driver that works well albeit without Intel control panel. Or you can completely delete every trace of the Intel/Lenovo driver(s) you have now and let MS give you their Windows 10 driver. I don't know if the HDMI functionality will be there but it's worth a try. If you go the modded route, you'll need to find a way to stop windows 10 from overwriting your modded driver.

Let me stop you from wasting your money.  I too had the problem you described.  What I made sure of was that once I installed that 8.1 driver, and in my case, the one dated March 2014, I went into Windows Update and disabled automatic updates.  That is where it kept getting updated for me.  That was a week ago and still have stability using the old driver.

Hope this helps.  Intel needs to make a stable Windows 01 driver like yesterday.

Have you ever installed third party devices related to video? I'd used two: a micro-HDMI to RGB converter and a USB to RGB converter. After having the Graphics Driver problem for ever a day (I'm the original poster), I plugged in each third-party device. HDMI-to-RGB converter worked but didn't affect the Graphics Driver problem. Plugging in the UDB to RGB converter (re)installed something using a really noticeable Wise Installer screen, and then the Graphic Driver started successfully. So I'd try plugging in video-related third party devices that you'd used on the machine in the past, if you still have them.

I have no idea how this resolved the driver problem, but it's worth a shot if nothing else is resolving it.

Re: Intel HD Graphics driver on Yoga 2 Pro fails after Windows 10 upgrade

2015-08-08, 18:36 PM

OK, here's another data point. My wife upgraded her almost-identical Yoga 2 Pro yesterday, without issue. Here's details.

I have an "older" Yoga 2 Pro. Mary bought hers about 8 months later. Other than network card (Mine came with a single-band card, her's came with a newer multi-band card) the specs (processor, memory, SSD size) are identical. Both graphics cards state "Intel HD Graphics 4400"  on Display Settings/Advanced Settngs/display adapter properties.

I installed the latest Lenovo drivers and BIOS from the website in 4/2015. And put off installing new drivers until after the Windows 10 upgrade. Mary did not install any Lenovo driver upgrades. Not sure what my video driver version was before doing the Windows 8.1 -> 10 upgrade. Before doing the upgrade, Mary's machine had driver version 10.18.10.3496.

My upgrade had Graphics Driver problems, since resolved. See other posts in this thread for details. My current driver, that's working OK, is version 10.18.15.4240. That matches the latest version on the Lenovo website.

Mary had no Windows 8.1 -> 10 driver problems at all. The upgrade did update her graphics driver, to version 10.18.15.4256 (the Microsoft driver supplied by the upgrade??), its working fine.

Go figure...

And Intel Graphcs Control Panel works fine when the Graphics driver is functional, and doesn't even come up if the driver has problems.

Hope this information is helpful to someone,

Cheers, Bob

Thanks motc777 and bobbeauch, I'm back to using the Windows 8.1 driver as that at least lets me use HDMI.  I was able to use the Windows Update, Advanced Update Settings to change from Automatic Updates to Notify so that will hopefully allow me to keep functioning until a working Windows 10 drivers is available for this graphics driver on the Yoga 2 Pro.

I have issues both with Intel HDMI audio device and with conexant audio on yoga 2 11 haswell i5, hd4400. The issues are related. When I am forced to remove the conexant device driver sometimes the Intel HDMI will also disappear after rebooting though I did not uninstall it specifically.
Only audio a that seems to work consistently is generic high def audio.
But win 10 auto installs the problems again

After trying a dozen different measures, this particular roll-back worked for me. Thanks so much.
