Lenovo Win10 Pro Bitlocker on by default

Can't access my laptop.

Is it possible that after windows 10 pro installation bitlocker is on? Could it depend what is the source of win10 or the laptop's manufacturer? It seems that in our Lenovo Thinkpad T570 bitlocker was on when we bought it.

Or could it be that some Lenovo program turns bitlocker on without a notice during installation?

I don't like it either and I turn it off.  It is Microsoft, not Lenovo.

Is it asking for your Recovery Key? The one with 48 figures? Or for your PIN?

Is it really possible that bitlocker is on in a new win10 pro laptop? Where is the recovery key then stored?

Re: Lenovo Win10 Pro Bitlocker on by default

To be on by default, you need to set up using a microsoft account.  The key is stored there.

Re: Lenovo Win10 Pro Bitlocker on by default

Asking for the Recovery key means that Bitlocker was active and some change happened to the system that caused Bitlocker to ask for the Recovery authorisation. Change might be moving the system to a new SSD or similar.

You should ask for the recovery key from where you got the system in the first place, or alternatively a system format-reinstall might be the sollution.

Re: Lenovo Win10 Pro Bitlocker on by default

Windows 10 enables BitLocker Device Encryption by default.  This happens whether you use the Lenovo factory preload, or if you install Windows 10 yourself from the Microsoft ISO.  The recovery key is backed up to your Microsoft account.  To get your recovery key, go to BitLocker Recovery Keys.
