Treshold battery Lenovo Companion - Fall Creators Update 1709

The threshold for battery charging is not respected anymore after the Windows 10 upgrade.

Re: Treshold battery Lenovo Companion - Fall Creators Update 1709

I have the same problem on Lenovo X1 Carbon 5th gen. The threshold worked OK before upgrade to Win 10 Fall Creators Update.

I found out that it helps to run Lenovo Companion and turn the threshold off and on. However, after restart the settings is again lost (you need to do it again - which is not very compfortable).

Lenovo, please provide a fix.

Re: Treshold battery Lenovo Companion - Fall Creators Update 1709

As in earlier times, Microsoft made undocumented changes to the registry.

As I understand, LenovoCompanion writes the charging threshold values to

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Lenovo\PWMGR\ConfKeys\Data\<battery-ID>\

The keys are:

ChargeStartControl (1/on or 0/off)

ChargeStartPercentage (numerical value)

ChargeStopControl (1/on or 0/off)

ChargeStopPercentage (numerical value)

After applying the Fall Creators Update (1709) the same keys can be found under

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Lenovo\PWMGR\Data\

These keys are not touched by LenovoCompanion, you have to edit them manually in order to gain back battery charge control.

This works perfectly for me [X1 Carbon 3rd, Type 20BS]

Hopefully, ther will be an update to LenovoCompanion soon...

Re: Treshold battery Lenovo Companion - Fall Creators Update 1709

Thanks for the info. But the registry changes are gone after reboot... ChargeStartControl and ChargeStopControl go back to 0...

Lenovo, please fix this issue.

Re: Treshold battery Lenovo Companion - Fall Creators Update 1709

Hi tmndz, thanks for the workaround. I have changed the registry and restarted. Checked the registry again and the changes are still there.

However, Lenovo needs to fix this ofcourse in the next update of the Companion App!

Thanks!  Can you (or anyone else) confirm the registry item name on your system is PWMGR and not PWRMGRV?

I had the Windows 7 Power Manager installed on my WIndows 10 X1 Cardbon 3rd gen type 20BS at one point so figure that may be why I'm seeing a PWRMGRV reg key rather than a PWMGR reg key.
