This solved the problem for me too (X1 Carbon 5th gen 20HR, Windows 10 1803 update). Thank you very much!

Mar_k: I created a Lenovo account just to thank you for this solution. Worked for my X1 Carbon (5th Gen Kabylake) laptop. Much gratitude!

For those coming after, the post with the solution is #7 in this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Windows-10-April-2018-Update-1803-Windows-Hello-Synaptics-WBD/m-p/4079072#M6641

Thank you Mar_K. Worked on X1 Yoga 1st Gen as well. Agreed that it's the 27MB driver package that sorts it out.

Indeed thank you. The 27MB package worked for my X1 Yoga 1st gen. Now my fingerprint scanner worked again.

Thank you. It worked for me too. I have thinkpad X1 Yoga 2nd gen. I was concerned that 5.2.3527.26 did not list my computer amongst its "supported systems" (it only lists A275 and A475) but anyway fortunately it worked.

Had also no fingerprint functionality after upgrade to Windows 10 version 1803 on my Thinkpad X1 Tablet Gen 2. Running Lenovo Vantage System Update did upgrade 3 different software/driver packages and after a reboot sure enough the fingerprint reader was working again.
