Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update (1803): Windows Hello / Synaptics WBD (SGX enabled) Fingerprint Rea

2019-02-04, 20:36 PM

Alas, the solution is gone, and so it would be better to remove the 'Solved'-tag.

On 5th of December the file as described above, the 27MB, has been replaced by one of 6.5 MB, under that DS500825-link (5.2.3535.26)

Here on mine, I disabled and uninstalled the software as suggested in that post. Then I tried with that newer software, though the sensor was found with the old driver software which I had 'uninstalled'. So it seems like getting nowhere for me.

Agree, it should be changed back to unsolved as just by installing the new drivers is not working.

In fact this seems to be the cause of it in the first place..

I have given up trying to fix it and not prepared to do a system reset as I have the system set up for how I want with all my work software.

This needs to go back to the Lenovo support to fix and come back with a truly fresh set of drivers that work.

Same problem here, the driver linked is now a 6.5 mb file as well.

Installing the Intel drivers did not help in particular either.

In fact my fingerprint sensor does not even show up neither in device manager nor BIOS, not even sure if it may be a hardware issue now...

Super thankful if anyone may have any idea how to solve this mess...!

Mine does work now. I can't honestly say what the identifiable solution was, however.

I had gone all the way through, disable the finger print reader in the BIOS, resetting the machine, restarting and setting it up, installing that Management Engine 12.0 Software (I don't know what for), and the old driver 4.8.206.0 from 2015, rebooted, and since then it has been working.

Reading carefully, I think there may be a hardware problem, since it ought to show up in the BIOS, at least.

I finally got it to work!! I uninstalled the Synaptics WBDI device and reinstalled it using the Verison 5.2.3531.26. Then after a restart went to Start Menu > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Fingerprint > Add another and added my prints. It wouldn't let me remove any old prints and when I hit "Add another" the Windows Hello welcome page opened as if I hadn't used the fingerprint feature before. Anyway, after adding the prints it was good to go! Hope this works for somebody else too!

Thanks for the solution!!

The sensor wouldn't read my fingerprint at all for the past couple of days. When I went to add another fingerprint, it wouldn't read either.

The 27MB file isn't available anymore, but I followed what user Minijuice above said - uninstalled current Synaptics WBDI device and installed the 6MB version (5.2.3531.26). After a restart, it worked and let me add more fingerprints. Thanks!!

Unfortunately what I thought was a solution stopped working after the restart. Now I'm back at the beginning,  fingerprint still not working.

What I don't understand is where is this Lenovo support team to help us resolve this problem? I mean does anyone of them even read these posts? So many people are affected by the same issue with so many laptop models and for so long. And still, no solution from the manufacturer, like they don't care.

I'm so disappointed in Lenovo and frustrated. This was my first time, last time and never again to buy something branded by Lenovo!!!!!

Thanks for the solution.  I simply went to Levovo Vantage, selected System Update, then Check for Updates, and let Vantage run the recommended updates.  Fingerprint scanner works like a charm.

I had a similiar issue on my P72 after upgrading to Windows 1903. Fingerprint wasnt working and could add a new one.

Solution:
Remove old fingerprints.
Remove all PINs.

Add new fingerprint and attach it to new PIN.
