Re: Windows 10 Technical Preview - Compatibility List

2015-08-16, 13:16 PM

A few of us have been able to get our W510 ThinkPad laptops running under Windows 10. For me, once it came up to the Desktop after the upgrade completed, a few minutes later, my system froze and I had to do a hard restart. A number of people seemed to have similar issues but once it came back after a reboot, their system seemed to work much better. Mine seems to be working pretty good now. I have not tried everything, but it seems to be working for the basic stuff (Internet both wired and wireless, etc.). I got through the big cumulative update that Microsoft released two days ago ok, so I am hopeful my system will keep on trucking. Lenovo does not seem to have many driver or other software updates for the W510 (mine is 5 years old) so there may be a few things I will not be able to do.

Try: delete the sound device AND driver in device manager then reboot. Windows 10 will install a driver. I also had the same prob with the camera. did same thing and it worked.

Biznatch can you explain a little more how you got a fully functioning w520 after a clean install?

I can't seem to get external monitors working. In the NVIDIA control panel I can see that they are there but Windows 10 can't detect the monitors. Even when I set the GPU to explicitly be the 2000m windows can't detect the monitors.

I have a w520 with i7 sandy bridge processors. HD3000 integrated graphics and NVIDIA 2000M discrete graphics card.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Lenovo's website for the w520. Also tried downloading the graphics drivers directly from NVIDIA.

Note that upon the initial upgrade from Windows 7 I was able to hook up external monitors with no problem., it is only after the clean install that I can't attach external monitors.

Thanks Biznatch.

Cheers!

Just upgraded my X1 Carbon (original model) to Windows 10. Initially went great. Today, things are freezing. Firefox stopped working many times. Login screen wouldn't accept mouse clicks or typing for password after going to screen saver. A couple times the whole computer just frooze up. I see reference to a Lenovo System Update. Where do I get that? Anything else that could be causing these freezes?

Edit: Now the Windows Update screen won't load.

Model: 3000 n100
Build Number: 10049 (and complete)

Compatible: Yes

Workarounds: Install win7 graphical drivers ( http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_notebook_winvista_win7_179.48_beta.html ) manually, desactivate the fingerprint detector, ThinkVantage System Update does not work yet.
