G50 completely hosed! - Re: Windows 10 (Version 1803) April 2018 Update Issues

2018-05-21, 20:46 PM

Our Lonovo G50 just went through a major update.

  • Now it won't boot.
  • It tells me there are no restore points
  • When I request the Rollback, it just reboots to the same point, asking for KB layout and then rollback menu

Help...................

Same problem as with my K450e. Welcome to the club. My only working option was a complete Win 10 reinstall, but after that my WiFi and Bluetooth are not working.

Misery loves company I guess :-(

Anyway, I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Microsoft today. They have arranged a L2 service call to me for tomorrow (22nd May 2018) morning.

I guess it will end up taking a re-install. I'll post what I find

Paul.

Thinkpad P70 black screen after Windows 10 update 1803

2018-05-22, 0:43 AM

I've just about had with all the Windows updates crippling my computer. They make the updates mandatory but they better make sure you don't end up with a brick after the update.

I now have a black screen on my P70 that I use for all my daily development and I'm looking at days worth of wasted time to get back to where I was.

Why is update 1803 failing on so many Lenovo devices? What is sthe solution to this miserable disaster of an update?

The only one rule of an update should be "DO NO HARM."

After I get my computer what do I do now when Windows Update again inststs on crippling my computer with the 1803 update?

x240 too. Not on the list. Automatic update is not allowing boot into previous version. Unable to start windows, just getting to the rollback menu every time. AARGH!!!!

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: Windows 10 (Version 1803) April 2018 Update Issues

I have a Z50 and have Controlled folder access enabled (to help avoid ransomware).

I recently received Windows 10 update 1803.

Since then I am getting messages about Controlled folder access blocking Lenovo.Modem.IM.... from making changes to Memory and  Lenovo.Modem.IM... from making changes to %userprofile%\D...\DISPLAY  (sorry, I know of no way to expand the messages to get the full folder names ?  Anyone know how ?).

I get these message every time I wake my laptop from sleep or power it up/restart it.

Has anyone else experienced this ?

Well after spending hours on the phone with Microsoft yesterday (Monday) and then again today, this time alking to a L2, no joy.

The L2 said that I had to take the laptop into a MS store and kindly set up an appt for me.

Well, when I get to the store, the 'consultant' promptly informed me that they would likely do a clean re-install and I had to leave the laptop for 5 days.....errr, no thanks.

In the end I created a W10 DVD and re-installed the OS. I managed to preserve the various use data files, but all the apps of course now need re-installation.

At least the machine is now running, but what a pain in the rear end this has been.

I also had to reinstall the whole shooting match.  As the Yoga Plus notebook had Windows 8.1 initially installed, it meant I also had to add Windows 10 (which was a free upgrade when buying the PC) as well.

This I did at weekend, but kept receiving messages that my battery was weak (it wasn't), also kept losing wi-fi connection, so it took a long while!

Now PC running perfectly, as it was before Microsoft aggressively enforced their updates on users.

What a performance!
