Windows 10 on a Y500 Ideapad

2015-06-01, 11:29 AM

Just wondering if anyone has tried W10 on a Lenovo Y500 Ideapad?

When I upgraded from W8->8.1 there were a couple of issues with the Lenovo energy management application, the drivers for the sound/brightness and their respective keys on the keyboard. I managed to fix all those issues by simply getting the drivers and downloads from the webpage for the Y500, but they don't support this model anymore and I doubt they'll update the drivers for it.

Kind of worried that attempting to upgrade to W10 will just cause sound/brightness/etc. to cease functionality, but I'm tempted to try anyway.

Anyone know if it works before I try it?

Please be advised that the Windows 10 upgrade is not supported by Lenovo for Y500 laptops.

The list of supported devices can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht103535

Thank you,

@omegano, Thanks for the info, I will try it out with a clean install and if that doesn't run well then I will just revert back to Windows 8.1. I will report back with how it went.

@Amy_Lenovo, Do you mean that Lenovo the company won't provide support to Lenovo Y500 laptops with Windows 10 or that Windows 10 is not compatible with Lenovo Y500 laptops?

I'm not sure if you have read that list of supported systems, but IdeaPad Y500 is actually listed. I'm currently running Windows 10 on this laptop, and it is not as good as I expected, but hopefully it will get better with some updates from Lenovo and Microsoft itself.

I installed windows 10 about a week ago, and i dont know why, but there is a lot of weird stuff going on, when i open a folder or plug a usb device i get some dlack/orange colors around my screen, sometimes when i close a game it gets stuck. and i have to open task manager to finish the game's task, i dont know if it is because the chipset driver, aparently there is no chipset driver for y500 win10.

any thoughts? am about to roll back but i want to give it a fair chance first

Anyone with problems with bluetoooth drivers?

For me Windows 10 keep rejecting my bluetooth

Event 17, BTHUSB

The local Bluetooth adapter has failed in an undetermined manner and will not be used. The driver has been unloaded.

Once this happens I had to uninstall all bluetooth drivers (hidden in the device manager) and reboot to enable it again as a short term solution, but eventually the bluetoothdriver will unload again sooner or later.

I tried everything and the windows 10 Bluetooth drivers provided by Lenovo are not installing...

If anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it, please, please let me know!!!!

Other than that....Y500 on windows 10 seems ok

Re: Windows 10 on a Y500 Ideapad

I am facing some different issue.

1. I have updated my NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M cars (both card) to latest driver (10.18.13.5362) but when the computer comes out of Sleep the screen flickers for few seconds like there is some issue with the monitor but then it is back to normal. This only happens when it comes out of sleep. This was not there in windows 8.1.

2. I am seeing some drop in Network when my Microwave is on. network drop was also there in win 8.1. Intel Wireless N-2230 driver version is latest (15.18.0.1).

Some time the drivers restarts automaticaly.

The network interface "Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230" has begun resetting. There will be a momentary disruption in network connectivity while the hardware resets.
Reason: The network driver requested that it be reset.
This network interface has reset 80 time(s) since it was last initialized.

3. In the Event Viewer i am also seeing some warning, not sure what is this. Speend of processor is reduced for all the 8 cores of i7 cpu

The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 13 seconds since the last report.

3 Some more warning in event viewer

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ROOT\LENOVOVHID\0000.

4. Boot log shows this error.

Must be multiple load a dxgkrnl.sys, eventhough it is already loaded.

BOOTLOG_LOADED \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys

BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys

BOOTLOG_NOT_LOADED \SystemRoot\System32\drivers\dxgkrnl.sys

Has anyone been able to use the SSD for express cache in Windows 10 for Y500?

Initily it was showing the express cache is not Mounted. then I updated express cache software to the below version. Then it says "Failed to retrieve product license information".

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds035460

I tried to follow the below instruction but it did not work.

Edit

Some success on SSD.

Deleted the partition and Downgraded software to 1.0.86 version. Downloaded from the below link.

After restart its working.

The bottom line is; LENOVO will NOT provide WINDOWS 10 drivers for the Y500 Series!  Do not wast your time trying to upgrade your IDEAPAD!!!
