Windows 10's April 2018 Update (1803) - Lenovo P50 Synaptics Fingerprint Reader

It appears that the Windows 10 1803 update has broken the Synaptics Fingerprint Reader:

 

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

Yoga 720 fingerprint reader no longer working (Windows 10 Spring 2018 update)

Yay, another major windows update... another round of driver problems! Fun!

 

After yesterday's big Windows update (Windows 10 version 1803, aka the Spring 2018 feature update) the Synaptics fingerprint reader doesn't work. Uninstalling and re-intalling the driver didn't fix anything.

 

Device manager says:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

 

Has anyone found a work around? Thank you.

 

setup:

YOGA 720-15IKB Signature Edition

Windows 10 1803 (OS Build 17134.1)

newest fingerprint reader drivers straight from the website

I ran the Update Driver from Device Manager and rebooted and the fingerprint sensor is working again.

I tried that earlier already. It tells me the best driver for my device is already installed. Yet the device does not actually work.

I'm continuing to try more things. I uninstalled the driver (and checked the remove driver from computer box) from device manager on the fingerprint sensor, rebooted... windows update intalled a driver for the fingerprint sensor. at first it looks all good... I can now go into the printerprint settings in windows 10 and try to setup a fingerprint... HOWEVER it does not work. It brings me to the series of windows to setup a new fingerprint for the first time... telling me to press my finger on the sensor, however it does not register me as actually touching the fingerprint sensor so it can not continue. very frustrating.

I then tried uninstalling the driver again, and re-installing it from the lenovo setup file... after rebooting, i'm now back to where I was before, my computer does not know I even have a fingerprint sensor.

Could use some help please.

Yoga 370 Thinkpad, same problem.  Windows updates break the Synaptics driver everytime for some reason.  The fall 2017 update did as well and I was able to just remove the device and let it detect the hardware but that't not working this time.  :/

 

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I have tried:

1. unstall device, reboot, update driver, failed

2. reset it in BIOS, reboot, unstall, reboot, update driver, failed.

3. talked to Lenovo support (my machine is just 5 month old) and tried again above methods, no luck at all.

 

Any help?

The quickest way to get these update issues fixed is to use the Windows 10 Feedback Hub to send feedback to Microsoft.
Consumers can copy and share the link to feedback so that others with the same problem can upvote feedback. Upvoting moves the report up for Microsoft engineers to address.
