Fn Keys not working

2021-07-13, 21:38 PM

I have the latest Windows 11 build installed on a Lenovo Ideapad 330-15IGM and the Fn keys do not work. I checked both my BIOS settings and my Lenovo vantage settings and both are set to Hotkey Functions. I tried changing the BIOS hotkey settings and the Lenovo Vantage settings but nothing seems to work. All of my drivers should be up to date (according to Microsoft and Lenovo at least – please see the attached screenshot in this regard). Anything I can do to perhaps mend this?

Update: the recent update fixed all of my issues (I even realised that Microsoft has not gotten rid of the hideous volume and brightness slider OSD thing). I am assuming that it was caused by some code (or lack of) in previous Windows 11 builds.

Thank you to everyone who offered support.

Good day.

Have you reported your observations and feedback to Microsoft via the formal Windows Insider channel?

Regards.

Yes, I have reported the issue to Microsoft through Feedback Hub. I am not sure if it is a problem on their part as the only other person who had a similar problem was using a laptop similar to mine. I am under the impression that it is perhaps a driver related issue as the Fn keys only function as F1-F12 and using the Fn key seems to yield no different result.

Most likely Microsoft and Lenovo will be working together on drivers. Testing is currently in progress so Lenovo will publish their list of compatible systems in the future.
We'll be sure to add a link to that list to our information at the top of this board.

Hi:

Please download the automatic analysis tool from:
https://meta.box.lenovo.com/v/link/view/af14ac8aa7144e6db2bc38feab847676

Run it and follow the guide to do.

a). Click the "next" button, it will check whether the hotkey driver named "lenovo utility" is installed on your laptop.

If not, it will show the "download" button which you can press to guide you to download the lenovo utility.

If yes, it will show the version of your lenovo utiltiy and state of running. And give me a screen shot about those information and email to me.

     Then do the next step;

b) Click the "Enable log" button. If any popup shows, please chose "yes".

Then press your non-working hotkeys, and  clicking the "Open log" button to locate the log file named "_utility.Log".

Then email the "_utility.Log" to liweiwei1@lenovo.com

I am looking forward your feedback.

More,

If you have installed the lenovo utility UWP, please check "Startup Tab" in Task Manager, the status of lenovo utiltiy UWP must be enable so that it works every time you restart your PC.

As below:

Please tell me how it goes.

I am looking forward your reply. Thank you.

Re:Fn Keys not working

After having read all these tips I have found a way around the Keys not working.

I installed the Lenovo FN+ AND the Lenovo Vantage App from the Microsoft Store. The FN+ didn't do anything. Then I went into the Vantage App and went to the Quick Settings, then clicked the More settings textlink.

Vantage Settings

Afterwards I enabled the Lenovo Vantage Tray Icon

Enabled Tray icon

And then, in the tray Icon app I was able to switch between F-Keys and Special Keys. Since then, my special Keys work.

Quick Settings

Now, even the FN+Esc Shortcut works.

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed your steps, but in my case the Fn keys still do not perform any of their special functions. I found a temporary solution in AHK. I wrote a few scripts which seem to be makiing situation somewhat manageable.
