Re: Lenovo 3000 N100 windows 7 sound driver

After 6 hours of dealing with this today, never mind the frustration from yesterday (and no help calling Lenovo directly - they are charging $575 for any problem and you have to mail the machine in!!!)...but it is done.

I have a Lenovo n100 0689 model as yourself - same problem.

First. download from Lenovo website the driver for Realtek.  In my case I was upgrading from XP - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66525

After it is installed, and it should have been installed in C:\Drivers\Realtek (more or less)... check and you will find it.  Then go to DEVICE MANAGER, and look for the Sound hardware (it should say that it is working properly and so on), but highlight and right click and go to Properties-there click UPDATE DRIVER, but manually look for it.  Click BROWSE and find the C:\Drivers|... Realtek (file) that you have just downloaded.  The system will update it accordingly, and it will work.  Good luck!!

Re: Lenovo 3000 N100 windows 7 (RealTek) sound driver

Dear GenOli,

please confirm your n100 0689 model is really Realtek type?

The RealTek audio version seems to contain following models:

3000 N100 (models 0689-Exx, Fxx, Gxx and 0768-Exx, Fxx, Gxx).

Does this match your type?

Your description sounds too easy and we are dealing with the RealTek issue since 6 months :-(

So I have the fear your type is again SoundMax which will work after some treatment as already stated in earlier threads of this discussion.

Thanks for your answer.

Thank you GenOli This does work - Using the driver from the link you supplied

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-66525

solved it on a type 0768 (realtek sound)

run as winxp sp 3 compatibility

point device manager to "c:\drivers\Realtek audio driver [TR] for [xp]"  go no further! don't choose the vista folder!

Good luck to y'all

Re: driver Re: Lenovo 3000 N100 windows 7 sound driver

this last solution worked. for some reason the driver does not directly install in the correct location. after unpacking it go to the destination folder and run the setup file and then your are set to go.

i use a Lenovo 3000 N100 689 G9.

the link given above is good to go.

thank you swalis

Re: Lenovo 3000 N100 windows 7 sound driver

Enabling Lenovo N100 SoundMax audio in Windows 7

I recently installed Windows 7 in my Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop. The installation went well and everything seemed perfect until I discovered that there was no audio. I checked the Device Manager and found no errors related to audio and others. My techie instinct tells me I needed to manually install the driver. Since no driver was available for Windows 7 from the Lenovo support website, I took the risk of dowloading the Windows Vista driver instead. After the download, I immediately installed the said driver but to no avail. Instead, Windows 7 loads its own high definition audio driver even when I uninstalled it and rebooted the machine. Out of desperation, I did the following procedure to eventually solve the problem.

   1. Using Windows Explorer, open the C:\windows\system32\drivers folder.

   2. Select and right-click HdAudio.sys then select Properties from context menu.
   3. In the Properties applet, click the Security tab.
   4. In the Security tab, click Advanced then click the Owner tab thereafter.
   5. In the Owner tab, you should see your username listed, click Edit.
   6. You should see your username listed again. Select it and click OK.
   7. Click OK when a message box appears.

   8. Click OK again and click Edit.
   9. Click Add and click Advanced then click Find Now.
 10. Select your username and click OK and another OK.
Notice that your username is selected.

11. Tick the Full control checkbox and click OK.
 12. Click Yes when prompted and click OK.
 13. Delete HdAudio.sys and do the same for the other copies located in the following folders:

        C:\Windows\LastGood\system32\drivers
        C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hdaudio.inf_x86_neutral_9781e9d72e255b2e
        C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_hdaudio.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_15368bf2c8c39eac

 14. Reeboot the system

15.  Open Device Manager.

16. Go to “Sound, video and game controllers” section.

17. Select currently installed device and right click.

18. Select “Update Driver Software”.

19. Select “Browse my computer for driver software”.

20. Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”.

21. Click “Have Disk” button.

22. Select the location where you have extracted package (#3) and browse “<path>i386\Vista” folder.

23. Select the inf file.

24. Click “Next”
