Why are you so happy after paying 17 dollars for FREE upgrade?

Mark_Lenovo:

I understand that, as a customer service employee at Lenovo, your job is to calm us all down until we receive our “free” upgrade in the hopes that we forget the lack of preparation and unacceptable wait times, and go on with our lives.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!

$17.03 for a “free” upgrade.  Well, if you’re charging us for the disks, shipping, handling, and postage…then it’s not exactly free, now is it?

And honestly, no, I did not expect my order to ship out on October 22 since there were 400,000 orders before it.  But now, it’s the tail-end of November, and still no word on when my upgrade will arrive, other than a post by someone that spoke to one of your co-workers saying “hopefully December”.

The Beta versions of Windows 7 have been out for months.  Are IdeaPad customers just not important enough for Lenovo to have the drivers functional by October?

I’m done complaining.  Now, I would appreciate it if you posted the contact information for someone at LENOVO, not Mentor Media, so we can all contact someone about our refunds!

By the way, Mentor Media is 3+ weeks behind in replying to emails.  Just got a response today for a request on October 27.

In my definition of FREE there still is room for reasonable shipping charges.  In this case the definition of free applies to being able to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 for free. A gesture essentially made by Microsoft, not Lenovo.

Lenovo in turn has adapted the OS to its own products and still makes it available for free. Already a significant investment by its own right. Having to pay the bill for the entire logistics of distributing it across the globe in my view warrants financial compensation, at least for the shipping charges.

PS I have no doubt that there is some form of fincancial compensation from Microsoft to Lenovo in all of this, but I find that irrelevant. Everyone who is running or has run a business will understand the mechanics.

So, in my book it still is free even though I have to pay the shipping ...

So the ideapad series had been pushed back to Dec ??? That is so ridiculous, we had been told Nov 16th the kits will be shipped out, now pushed back again ? Might as well push to 2010... getting sick of all this... That is so unfair for ideapad people..

Just received my upgrade disc TODAY.  Comes in non-descript padded envelope, TWO discs... one DVD upgrade disc, one supplemental CD (~200mb).  COA license on CD cover.
