I am now experiencing the same problem in Win7 as I barely got away with in Vista.
The problem is as follows:
- I have the Lenovo USB keyboard with built in Trackpoint and Touchpad (wonderful).
- When I installed this keyboard in Vista it worked out of the box, but in Windows Update I got a recommended update for newer/better drivers.
- When I installed this driver, the Trackpoint and Touchpad stoppet working - so I had to restore my system and hide these updates in Windows Update.
- So when I install Win7 RTM these drivers seems to install with the system, and therefore the Trackpoint and Touchpad on my external keyboerd does NOT work out of the box. I do not get any updates for this either.
Tried solutions:
- I have tried to install the keyboerd drivers.
- The driver with Hotkeys installs alright, but does not solve the problem.
- The regular keyboard driver will not install, because it says that I there is a newer Synaptics-driver which has to be removed first.
- Well, there are no installed Synaptics-drivers to be removed - probably because these drivers are installed with the system.
- I have also tried to diable the PS/2 driver etc. but nothing works.
--> So, I am actually stuck with my wonderful external Lenovo USB keyboard without being able to use the Trackpoint or Touchpad. The worst although is that I know whats making the problem, but do not know how to solve it...
Can anybode please help, I cannot believe I am the only one having this problem (in Vista or in Win7).

Hi hajensen,
Are you using the Windows 7 beta drivers?

Thanks for your reply, although it did not work.
Please, can anybode help - I really don't believe that Lenovo standard USB-keyboards have problems with Windows Vista and Win7.

Heya!
Did you find a solution to this problem? I'm experiencing the same. I recently purchased a new lenovo G550 - ok machine (nothing to write home about). I installed Windows 7 Ultimate, and hooked up my external Thinkpad keyboard (SK-8835) expecting everthing to work.
Windows 7 recognises the keyboard but not the Touchpad ot Trackpoint, so it's pretty useless really.
The reason I hooked up the external keyboard is because I have a dodgy "e" key on the Lenovo G550. I may end of sending it back to be repaired.

I also have the same problem with a Lenovo Trackpoint USB keyboard and Windows 7. I'm sure it has something to do with the driver, but I can't get it working.
External USB Trackpoint Keyboard works, however, the trackpoint in it is disabled and I have to use the trackpoint on the actual laptop (x300).
This is VERY frustrating.

The answer is no. This is a user-to-user help community, moderated by volunteers like me. Although employees do fly by from time to time, it is not a monitored Lenovo support channel.

Please help community members help you by posting as much information as possible, including the part number of your keyboard, exact OS used, and Lenovo drivers installed (if any).
iamthe1, it sounds you have a different keyboard than the OP. If it's the ThinkPad USB keyboard, get the drivers here, otherwise head over to Lenovo Support & downloads to check.
hajensen, have you checked for released Windows 7 drivers for your UltraNav keyboard?

I tried the driver but it didn't work..........same result. Trackpoint on the keyboard (external) does not work but trackpoint on the laptop DOES work.
I gave up and bought a logitech mouse which is working great, however, I'm really bummed about the trackpoint.
Obviously windows and lenovo trackpoint drivers for the USB keyboard still have issues.
The keyboard I'm using is the new Travel USB Trackpoint Keyboard, Model: SK-8845, P/N 41A5161

I have a USB Travel Keyboard with UltraNav. I am not sure if it is the same as yours. But I have used the following two drivers (for Vista) and the keyboard has been working fine under Vista. Recently I upgraded to Windows 7. The vista driver seems still working fine.

One issue I found is that I cannot run the setup.exe to get the keyboard driver installed, it will claim something like OS specific program not found. But if you go inside the folder to find dpinst.exe, run it and you are good to go.
And this link for all possible drivers.

By the way, on my computer, once the aforementioned vista driver is installed, open control panel / mouse properties, you should see two tabs: one for "UltraNav" and one for "USB UltraNav".
