Windows XP Conversion Kit

Hi all
I have a new T61 with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I would like to downgrade to Windows XP. I got three CD's with the Notebook
1. Rescue and Recovery CD P/N 43R4481
2. Product Recovery CD for T61 .. P/N 44Y4003
3. Supplemental Product Recovery CD for T61 P/N 44Y4031

I thought these CD's would be the XP Conversion kit, but I'm not able to install it.
I used the RR cd and booted the system. I got the Rescue and Recovery application
but I couldn't find the option - as described in the conversion kit manual - "Full Restore".

What am I doing wrong, could anybody help me?

Thanks
Andrea

Re: Windows XP Conversion Kit

dontworry:

I actually tried last night again myself and was successful. The trick is to ignore the "Full Restore" comment and choose the System Restore option on the menue on the left. It should produce a window with three options: operating system and file restore from backup, operating system restore only and full hard-drive restore to factory stetting. The last one is the one you want. Let it go through the motions and follow the steps in the manual. They will work from here on out. With one important difference: it will not say that "the conversion process will begin in 20 seconds". It just sits there. I unfortunately thought it failed and hit cancel, which aborts the conversion process (as indicated in the manual). That left me with a blank hard-drive ..... After some other ill-fainted trials (and a phone call to Lenovo) did the exact same thing over again, but this time waited at this crutial step. And lo and behold, the process came back to life and properly installed Windows XP. Just the way they described in the manual (as if they knew what would happen ...). The whole process did take four hours, so bring some time.

Good luck.
