ANY ThinkPad DOESN'T WORK with my wifi

2015-03-15, 21:15 PM

Hi,

I am very, very angry now. EVERY ThinkPad (Edge) laptop I've ever brought home DOESN'T WORK with my wifi router. That's horrible and probably a bit riddiculous for Lenovo at all, because I - as ambassador - can't connect ANY laptop I receive for review. Any. No exceptions. X220, L430, L440, E530, S440, X1, T540p and others. Any. How is that possible?

Those latops don't / haven't worked just from the moment they were taken out of the box and turned on for the first time.

There is a list of devices, that WORK without ANY SINGLE PROBLEM.

Acer Aspire One, HP Pavilion dv6, PackardBell SJ-51, some various MSI's, friend's HP ProBook 470, friend's HP EliteBook 2530p, friend's Acer E17 (or something like that) and so on. That's for laptops.

I continue with phones like Sony Ericsson W995, Xperias X10, P, V, Z1 Compact, Acro S, some Windows Phone Nokia, some Samsung with Bada OS, an old Blackberry, various others (Motorola, iPhone and some Xiaomi tested without problem).

I can admit that Sony PSP, Sony PS Vita, various tablets and other devices WORK LIKE CHARM.

I can't forget MacBook! I am very sorry to say that, because I am not a fan of Apple. But it works.

Can You help me? I would really like to hear some reconmends. Please, don't give me "advices" like "reinstall your OS, reinstall your network card (I've tried every possible driver from Lenovo or Intel), don't tell me to reset my router, don't tell me to check the router settings (how is that possible, that even Acer works and "profi" chinese Lenovo does not?). I HAVE DONE ALL THAT CAN USER DO. EVERYTHING. I DON'T HAVE KNOWLEDGE AND RESOURCES TO REPAIR THINGS AFTER YOU, HOWEVER, THINKPAD NOWADAYS IS THE SYNONYM FOR DO-IT-YOURSELF.

---

Actually doesn't work these devices & adapters (I don't have others right now here):

ThinkPad X220 (Intel Centrino N-6205)

ThinkPad Edge E130 (N-2230)

To make things clear, I add some most often error lines from Access Connections LOG. They repeat randomly.

I am looking forward for Your answer. Don't worry, if You will finally help me, I won't continue in such a tone. I won't. All I want is someoone to help me with this. I can give you every possible information you need to solve this. And I expect anybody to help me with that.

Regards,

skrble

PS: Do you know, whats interesting? Don't blame Intel wifi cards - all those "faulty" laptops work well out of my home. BTW, some of the laptops that have ever connected to my router were models with Centrino wifi cards! Haha! Isn't it funny? They work with normal Intel drivers, but Lenovos dont? Problem is on your side.

Hello skrble,
Is it only Windows 7 systems that do not work for you? If it is other operating systems as well, I'll move this topic to a different forum.

Hello,

Yes, this problem occurs only on devices with Windows 7; however, I haven't received any device with Windows 8, so I can't say final verdict now. I will contact You in case I tested it on W8!

Hi,

Do the failing laptops "see" your home wifi network?  In what way do they not work?

How is your router configured?  What band and channel?

If this were just the average users wifi connection I would tell them to check for MAC filtering on the router. If it is turned on and the MAC address is not in the list of authorized devices that no matter what you do you will not be able to connect to the the router. Take your laptop to your tech guy and he can add the MAC address into the list and that should deal with the problem. That is not a Thinkpad issue or a Windows issue, it is a security issue. If you are the Ambassador and you are trying to connect thru one of your governments routers, there may also be other security protocols that need to be satisfied. Your tech person will know what to do or who to contact to get your Thinkpad authorized to connect to your network.

skrble,

Welcome to the forum.  Sorry to hear about your troubles.

I re-read your message a couple times and it sounds like you are bringing systems home and that the point is that they will not connect to your home router.  You have listed a good number of different ThinkPad models and noted they will not connect to your router while other manufacturers will.

Let me ask, if you take any of these ThinkPads to other locations, are you able to connect view wifi?  If so, then the ThinkPad and wifi are working and we appear to have some setting / incompatibility.  We have had some odd cases where routers needed a firmware update, but I don't want to jump to conclusions.

Can you please let us know if your laptops will work somewhere else first.  If none of the ThinkPads work anywhere, then we have perhaps a different problem.   Lastly, when you are at home, have you tried a wired ethernet connection from the ThinkPad to your router.  If so, are you then able to get network access?   Perhaps we can isolate this a bit.

Thanks

Mark

I am having the same problem I have made sure all the drivers are updated and it hasn't worked on my network since I got it out of the box. I have tried LAN and wireless connections and neither work. I have had messages saying that some protocols were missing. They were found and installed, but the problem still persists.

Care to share your computer model, operating system, wifi card, router model, anything else that might help others help you?

Lenovo Edge 2-1580

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260

WIndows 10 (64-bit)

I have tried everything for 3 days now. I've tried:

Deleting in device manager to install fresh drivers

I've made sure it is discoverable

I've done countless different commands in command prompt

Still nothing. Obviously this isn't the only Lenovo to do this so I'm thinking it is something beyond Windows that Lenovo is going to have to fix

The only thing I can do is get on the internet. I've tried several different networks on different routers and even done direct LAN connections and the laptop still won't communicate or show up anywhere
