Bluetooth indicator in Windows 8

2012-12-30, 14:03 PM

Hi All,

I have recently upgraded my X201 (non tablet version) to Windows 8 Pro from 7 Ultimate - thanks to those on this board in particular for the WLAN drivers.

My only outstanding issue is that the Bluetooth indicator is always on.  I have tried disabling the device in device manager and also in Win 8 but to no avail.  I have the latest BIOS 1.40 and bluetooth driver "ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0"

Bluetooth works - I just can't tell if it is turned on or off by looking at the lamps under the screen.  Has anyone got this to work?  I doubt it is X201 specific.

Thanks

I have an x220 and clean installed W8. My Bluetooth stays on as well. I can hit fn f5 and turn it off but when I reboot it comes back on. Did not do that before. Have not checked much into it yet. Was going to check the driver and also if there are any power settings. If I figure it out I will update.

How I solved this was by going into services (under task manager) to BT.   It was services, local, where you find two BT entries.  In one of the entries you will see a BT setting showing "automatic."   I simply changed that setting to manual and now when I turn off BT via Fn F5 and reboot - it stays off.  Before changing this setting to manual the light stayed on unless I turned it off and would come back on when I rebooted.  I tried like you to delete the driver and device but that did not work.  Setting BT to manual startup did for me.  I manually turned it back on and tested a file transfer and turned BT back off.  No problems. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip.  I changed both to manual but in my case Fn F5 does nothing.  I imagine I need the HotKey package or something.  I'll look into it.

I have an x220 and my Bluetooth led also stays on.  I have tried numerous maneuvers to get it to stay off on reboot including disabling all drivers and services and reinstalling win8 with and without bt being enabled.  Since I use BT rarily (gps) I simply disable it in the bios and re-enable when I need it.  Maybe someday Lenovo will get off the pot and provide drivers and utilities that work properly in Win8.

I got it to go off only by downloading hotkeys software and making it work with W8 Pro.   After that, I had to go in to services and set to manual.

Recently I did a clean install of W8 Pro, did not reinstall hotkeys and can't figure out how to turn it off - so for now it will just stay on.

I did another clean install yesterday for other reasons.  I've only installed minimal Lenovo stuff (Gobi, Ultranav, Fingerprint and Active Protection - windows update did BT and PM Drivers).

As everything else is working fine I think I'll also leave the lamp on rather than risk breaking somthing else.  I'll turn BT off in the BIOS also - a good idea.  Bit of a shame though nonetheless.  Thanks both for taking the time to post.
