Can I just install windows 7

2013-01-23, 20:05 PM

I have a new lenovo laptop installed with windows 8 (I don't have the model number), sold in the US. I have a completely  legitimate windows 7 disc (sold in the UK).  Can I just install windows 7, assuming I don't care about windows 8 (I have no interest in dual booting, and have no data on the laptop)?

Speculation about legal issues not required.

Yes, just turn off secureboot in the BIOS. Windows 7 will not boot on a new windows 8 machine that has secureboot on.

nothing legal to speculate on, as you bought a retail DVD.

You can choose advanced options during install so the "old" Windows 8 files will be moved to a Windows.old folder.

This way if you're missing anything (IE: drivers or software) you still have a chance to get it back some way.

Cheers.
