Re: Changing Charge Threshold on ThinkPads under Windows 8 without Power Manager

I am glad you have a sense of humor! And I do agree with you that it is a waste of pixels.

I know that Lenovo does not list Power Manager 6.36 as supported in Windows 8 but there are a lot of Windows 7 applications that work fine in Windows 8. If necessary, installation in compatiblity mode (Win7) will do the trick.

The software/driver provided by Windows 8 for my Lexmark printer left out the duplexing feature. I then installed the Lexmark provided software (Win7) in compatibility mode and all the features including duplexing are back.

Again, I have been using Power Manager in both laptops for several weeks now and everything works as before!

I do think it is worth a try!

Yeah... Mostsoftware works just fine. The Lenovo Power Manager works... But no matter what I do, the battery will just ignore it.

I've tried the W7 version, tried updating with the W8 Dependency Package after that... Before, and all the possible combinations I could think of. Cold restarting the system each time.

I'd really like to have this feat working. And if possible, using W8 drivers. I don't care if the GUI works or not. I don't care how hard it is... But since there is no documentation, I have no start point to begin... :(

Cheers.

I was wondering how to do this as well!

I hear what you are saying CharlyAR, and I also understand your frustration.

I guess it is all hardware dependent for the current Power Manager in Windows 8. What really surprised me is that it works fine in my 2008 vintage T61.

Hopefully Lenovo will come out with a solution soon.

Cheers!

Hey, we are all contributors... May I ask: did it work on your E420 as well?

Yes, it also works in the E420! The threshold settings and everything else.

Yesterday I grew tired of it and uninstalled everything: Power Manager 6.x, Dependency, etc.

...

Now, it's working. :smileymad:

Sigh. If only I knew HOW it's working now!!! Any Lenovo guy maybe can shed some light?

Re: Changing Charge Threshold on ThinkPads under Windows 8 without Power Manager

Welll, this was working for me on my T530.  Values set to 20% and 80%.  Now I can't turn it off or modify the values!  I've tried setting all the values back to 0, no dice.  Tried changing the percentages.  No dice.  This is a problem, as now if I need to pre-charge before unplugging for an extended battery session, and my battery level is at the low end of the charging window (around 20%), I'm out of luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone.

EDIT: Uninstalled Dependancy Package and reinstalled it, and this prompted the new values from the registry to be activated.  Hope I don't have to do this every time I want to enable/disable the feature!

Re: Changing Charge Threshold on ThinkPads under Windows 8 without Power Manager

Hi.

I tried to do your way but it does not work for me. I wasted almost 2 hours to do the B****T thing: to change the charging threshold for my laptop but failed!

I don't know why but the power management does work in Windows 8 Guests Account? But the setting does not apply when I change to administrative account?

It is so annoying that Lenovo does not release the fix for Power Management Software. It is one of the Thinkpad brand's selling point.
