Downgrade Vista Basic with Product Recovery Disk and XP Full license?

2009-07-13, 7:37 AM

Last year I purchased a T500 which came with Vista Business and a WinXP Pro downgrade disk.

I've ordered a T500 with Vista Home Basic.  Separately I've purchased a MS Win XP Pro FULL Disk for this new PC.

Can I use the T500 XP Pro Downgrade disk, and register using the COA  from the separately purchased XP Pro Full?

Current: Thinkpad Yoga S1 w/digitizer
Past: T500 2056-4SU, Advanced Dock, Ultrabay HDD carrier
Z61p 9452JRU. My first Lenovo/IBM stolen and in the hands of someone else now. Advanced Dock, Ultrabay HDD carrier

Running the T500 XP discs will install a pre-activated version of XP on either T500. No need to register or activate the COA number. You will need to apply the COA sticker from the retail version you purcheased to the Vita Home Basic machine to make it legal.

The downgrade disk may be using an OEM license while your xp disk you brought has a retail license key,so i doubt it will work. But i am not sure
