Error Code 80073712 after Windows update.

2009-07-01, 23:26 PM

I have yet another error code when Windows issued yet another automatic update.  This time it is #80073712.

I have gotten so many of these now, as Windows automatic updates download but fail to install.  Might this be because I am using Mozilla Firefox for my browser?

PLEASE....I've had dozens of updates fail to install, and I keep getting more and more different error code numbers.  Will there ever be any help on any of them?????

Moderator note: OS added to subject line for clarity.

I'm pretty sure the problem has nothing to with FireFox. It sounds like your something in your OS is corrupt. Which OS are you using? Googling the error, it seems most likely you are using Vista. It is a widely reported error, with many potential fixes. I would start with Microsoft's:

USB-C: Just cos it fits don't mean it works.
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

Hi Bananaman,

Thanks for responding to my post.  I didn't know about it.  Thought I'd get an email if someone responded.

My problem still exists.  I've tried working with Windows help services on it, and they've said my Register has a lot of corrupted files in it.  I left town for a while and haven't returned to the frustrations of trying to solve this problem yet.  I will check the link you so kindly posted now.  Here's hoping for the best.....

Nope.  As far as I can see the linked page is all about passwords.  I am not having password problems.  I've been spent times searching the Lenovo help for the answer to my problem and have failed to find the solution.  I always seem to end up in the Forums, on and on and on.....

Thanks for trying, though!

I too have the same error.  I have not been able to get any satisfactory solution form Lenovo tier 2 tech support.  They are so quick to tell you to reload the operating sytstem and all your software in order to fix the problems.  My system began to show problems within the system registry within a few days after purchase.  I guess it is a VISTA issue and will never be corrected since win 7 is about to ship.  Neither Microsoft or Lenovo will stand behind VISTA.  It is a poorly designed product that causes far too many problems and it is a real shame that we have no choice but to put up with it.  I missed the Lenovo win 7 freee upgrade by only a few days!  It is doubtful I will ever buy another Lenovo product - this was my first.  Lenovo support is totally unimpressive.

My system has vista business 64 bit.  I downloaded the utility  - system update readiness tool and ran it.  It immediately reported that the tool does not apply to my system.  I downloaded the 32 bit vista tool with the same result.  YEAH VISTA!!
